The station train Oberwil is a suburban railway station in the Swiss city train , which at the railway Thalwil- Arth-Goldau and is one of seven SBB is -Bahnhöfen stops and terminals in the city.
location
The double-track stop is in the Oberwil district of the city of Zug . The station is located on a 400-meter-long double-track island on the otherwise single-track Zug - Arth-Goldau line . In addition to the Walchwil train station , Zug Oberwil is the only crossing point on the route. The two 80 meter long side platforms are equipped with waiting rooms and barrier-free access and are connected by the Gimenenweg underpass. Due to their length, the platforms, like all other S-Bahn stops on the S2, can only be approached by individual Stadler Flirt compositions and no double traction is possible.
history
opening
The station was opened in 1897 during the construction of the Thalwil – Arth-Goldau line. For a long time, Zug Oberwil was the only SBB stop in the city of Zug next to Zug train station . It was not until 2004 that additional stations were added when the Zug urban railway opened .
expansion
As part of the first partial expansion of the Zug urban railway, Zug Oberwil was expanded to two tracks in 2010. A double-lane island and a second side platform were created. As a result of these construction measures, the half-hourly cycle could be introduced on the S2, as a second alternative was available on the otherwise single-track Zug – Arth-Goldau line. While an S-Bahn always crosses with a long-distance train on the Gotthard line in Walchwil , two S-Bahn trains always meet in Oberwil.
traffic
Until 2008, a RegioExpress Erstfeld – Zurich HB stopped in Zug Oberwil every day , but had to give way to long-distance trains from Zurich HB to Ticino. Since then, the station has been served exclusively by the S2 of the Zug urban railway every half hour, with only every second train being extended via Arth-Goldau to Erstfeld . If the IC Zurich HB – Lugano travels to Milan as a reinforcement to EuroCity , the S-Bahn does not continue to Walchwil and turns around at Zug Oberwil station. Platform 1 is used by trains in the direction of Zug . Trains to Walchwil and Arth-Goldau depart from platform 2.
