Durward Street is a street in the Whitechapel district of London , also known by its former name, Buck's Row . Directly across from Whitechapel Train Station , the street extends for approximately 320 meters between Vallance Road and Brady Street.

On August 31, 1888, the body of Polly Nichols , who is believed to be the first victim of the alleged series of murders by Jack the Ripper , was found on the sidewalk in Buck's Row . The street gained so much unwanted notoriety from the series of murders that it was renamed Durward Street that same year.

From the original appearance of Buck's Row, a schoolhouse and the wall off this building, on which the body of Polly Nichols was found, still survive.
