Dutch Red

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dutch Red is a commercially grown chilli variety that is the predominant chilli, especially in German supermarkets. It was probably bred from Cayenne chilli in Indonesia and moved to Dutch greenhouses from there .

The fruits are about ten centimeters long, two to three centimeters wide and are slightly thicker than cayenne chilies. They ripen from dark green to a bright red. The sharpness is around 3000-5000 SCU .

Since these chilies have been adapted to the European market and taste, they only have medium heat and can not replace the taste of other chilli varieties such as jalapeño , poblano or habanero .
