DxO PhotoLab is software for editing and managing digital photos . The basis is preferably all common images in raw data format , but JPEG is also supported for limited processing. As "automatic optical correction", camera and lens-specific properties are taken into account and, if necessary, loaded as additional packages. There are currently (as of October 2019) around 50,000 modules available.

DxO OpticsPro 11 was introduced in October 2017 with minor extensions to DxO PhotoLab ; there will be no version 12.

DxO PhotoLab is available for the macOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The target group are professional photographers, committed amateurs and all photographers who post-process images. After DxO took over the Nik Collection from Google in 2017, the U-Point technology originally developed by Nik Software was further developed by DxO and implemented in the last versions of DxO PhotoLab. With the release of DxO PhotoLab 3 in October 2019, Windows 10 will be required as the operating system for the Windows version.

History and Editions

DxO Optics Pro was first launched in 2004. Version 10 was presented in autumn 2014. Part of this version is an improved noise reduction module called "PRIME". The module was later improved under the name "PRIME 2016". With DxO PhotoLab, only minor changes have been made in the area of automatic correction.

DxO PhotoLab is available in two versions: "ESSENTIAL EDITION" and "ELITE EDITION".

In addition to the ESSENTIAL EDITION, the ELITE EDITION contains the PRIME technology for noise reduction, color management and output formats. There are also more options for customizing the workspace. Interaction with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is also possible. Also included is “CLEARVIEW” for reducing haze and many other modules.

In June 2018, the software won the TIPA World Awards 2018 in the 'Best Image Software' category. In April 2020, the software was once again awarded the TIPA World Awards 2020 as the “best image editing software”.

particularities

When developing the software, the specific properties of cameras and lenses were taken into account in numerous combinations. Optical errors in a lens / camera combination can thus be automatically corrected. Corresponding modules are offered for download as soon as the corresponding Exif data indicate this.
