Marie Key (* 7. October 1979 in Copenhagen as Marie Key Kristiansen ) is a Danish pop singer-songwriter.

Life

Marie Key grew up in Kartoffelrækkerne , a district of Copenhagen. She is the only child of her parents who worked as a surveyor. She attended Øster Farimagsgade Skole and the Rysensteen Gymnasium . After that, she began studying, with a focus on musicology and politics.

During her studies she made friends with other music lovers and founded the Marie Key Band. The folk- pop group also included Jakob Thorkild, Mads Andersen and Marie Louise Von Bülow. After successfully appearing in the KarriereKanonen competition in 2005, they signed a contract with the Danish label Genlyd, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment . The following year the Marie Key Band's first album, Udtales ['kæj], was released . It was produced by Henrik Balling. The album sold around 16,000 copies and the song Mormor became a hit. After the second album Hver Sin Vej (2008), which could not build on the success, the band separated again. At this time, Marie Key also experienced a personal crisis as her father had passed away.

Marie Key later started writing songs again. Through her label she met Andreas Maskinen Sommer, who became her producer. In 2011 she made her debut as a solo artist with the album I Byen Igen , which made it into the Danish charts. The released single Se nu herhen also briefly made it into the charts (# 16). It was the first love song directed at a girl that Marie Key published.

In 2012 Marie Keys released her second solo album, which was a great success in Denmark. The album stayed in the Danish charts for 102 weeks, of which eight weeks at number 1. With over 60,000 records sold, it reached triple platinum . At the Danish Music Awards 2013 Marie Key won six prizes, including best album ( De her dage ), best song ( Uden forsvar ) and best female artist.

After the Danish rock band Nephew released their fifth studio album Hjertestarter in 2012 , lead singer Simon Kvamm approached Marie Key with a request for a collaboration. In a duet they sang a new version of the song Gå Med Dig contained on the album . The song is about the ambivalent feeling of having found the partner for life, but at the same time pushing him away and wanting to be free. It was released as a single on March 4, 2013 and reached number 1 on the Danish charts .

On February 2, 2015, Marie Key released her third solo album Tænker Du Vi Danser on Genlyd and Sony Music, respectively , which was preceded by the single Fatter det nu on December 29, 2014 . This album also became a number one hit in Denmark .
