The catchphrase e-Science is understood to mean a scientific paradigm - electronic science or "enhanced science".

e-Science aims at collaborative research that is carried out on the basis of a comprehensive digital infrastructure. It supports collaborative processes in the development of research results and offers a platform for the publication of the results - which in turn become resources for further research.

In this sense, e-Science has, in addition to the technological aspect ( virtualization of hardware), above all a social and science-political aspect (cooperative research, reusability of data, interoperability of digital tools). Although an expansion of e-science methods into the economy and the public (society) is desired, this development occurs only hesitantly. A gradual approach to this goal over several years is not uncommon in the development of a new infrastructure .
