EEVA (text collection)
EEVA ( Ee sti va nema kirjanduse digitaalne tekstikogu , German: Digital Text Collection of Older Literature Estonia ) is a joint research project of the University Library of Tartu ( Dorpat ), the University Institute for Literature and Folklore and the Estonian Museum of Literature .
The cooperation of the 3 institutions, which started in autumn 2002, aims to provide access to old and rare texts of Estonian literary history without exposing the original texts to the wear and tear of scientific processing. The EEVA project is organizationally supported by the university, but financially supported by the government program "Literaturklassik" of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Estonia .
In addition to the digitization of the 3,000 most important works - currently around 1,100 texts by 321 authors - the scientific work also includes documentation on the individual poets and translators. It divides the holdings into 3 time periods:
- 13th to 16th century ("religious period")
- 17th century ("Swedish period" in which only little literature was produced)
- and 18th to 19th centuries ("Russian Era"), which, despite the pressure of Russification, produced a rich creative output.
In addition to the works in Estonian , the subject of the project is also the literature of the Baltic Germans . The literary magazine Der Refraktor , published in March, is an important source for them.
