Refractor (magazine)

The refractor was Vormärz one in Estonia published and East Prussia cultural magazine of the German company in the Baltics and in the western part of Russia.

It defined itself as the Centralblatt of German Life in Russia and offered "conversations about subjects from the field of life, science, literature and art" (quoted from 1st web link).

In the years around 1836, editors and publishers were Martin Asmuss , the poet lawyer Carl Friedrich von der Borg and the East Prussian district administrator Hermann Schmalz . The bookseller CA Kluge acted as publisher, the monthly (?) Was printed by the university printer JC Schünmann in the Estonian town of Dorpat (Tartu).

The magazine contained fiction , secular and non-fiction, and various journalism. In terms of literary history the focus was on the 18th and 19th Century ( Russian time ) with its poetry and epic .
