Carl Friedrich von der Borg
Carl Friedrich von der Borg (* February 15 jul. / 26. February 1794 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † August 5 jul. / 17th August 1848 greg. In Tartu , Estonia) was a Baltic German poet , editor and Translator of Russian literature.
Life
Von der Borg studied law at the University of Dorpat from 1811 to 1816 and then worked as a lawyer in Dorpat . From 1819 to 1827 he was secretary at the district court, from 1827 until his death he was the office director of the university. In addition, he began around 1830 to work as an author in fiction and as a cultural journalist in the Baltic States . In the 1830s he was co-editor with the East Prussian district administrator Hermann Schmalz of a cultural magazine for Baltic Germans , the refractor that appears in Dorpat .
As a literary scholar, Borg published an anthology of Russian poetry ( Poetic Products of the Russians. An attempt , 2 volumes, Dorpat / Riga 1823) in order to increase the reception of Russian poetry in Germany and to reduce the so-called "Russia threshold".
He translated numerous works from Russian, such as the extensive memorabilia on Mongolia (Berlin 1832, 426 pages) and the memorabilia of Fraulein N. Durow von Pushkin . In 1836, under the title The Northern Lights , he wrote several episodes of Refractor on topics of modern Russian literature .
