EMSCHERplayer
The " EMSCHERplayer: Art - Culture - Communication " was founded in 2006 by Karl-Heinz Blomann as an art project. His aim was to accompany and document the renaturation process of the Emscher operated by the Emschergenossenschaft as part of the project conversion of the Emscher system as an acoustic memory . Over the years the range of content has been expanded to include photos, videos, podcasts and a scientifically based magazine section.
The EMSCHERplayer sees itself today as an information platform that connects actions, words, images and sounds. It aims to trigger a reaction, behavior, attitude, and attitude. It is a multimedia documentation of regional transformation.

The Emscher runs for approx. 85 km through the former coal and steel production region of the Ruhr area and has been used as a sewer, an open sewer , since industrialization in the 1930s. With its east-west course across central cities in the Ruhr area, it shaped the cityscape and lifestyle of the people for decades. Since 1995, the Emscher has been rebuilt and renewed as part of a master plan for the future of the Emscher until 2020. This planned reclamation of the river landscape is unique in Europe. The Emschergenossenschaft based in Essen is responsible for the ecological measure .
As an internet platform, the EMSCHERplayer accompanies this renovation project by documenting the development, capturing moods, giving outlooks and enabling reviews. The focus is on social, intercultural and political communication in the region, the technical procedure of the construction measures as well as art and cultural projects that take place in the context of the renovation project. The EMSCHERplayer is a database with a focus on art, culture and communication, in which sounds, voices, images, texts and films from the Emschertal make the change in the region tangible and tangible. In the magazine, personalities from science, culture, politics and administration discuss various aspects of regional transformation.
