description

Cairns were established in the Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age between 3000 and 1000 BC. Created. When the East Revoch Cairn was built has not been investigated. It belongs to a group of similar systems on the southeastern edge of the Clyde Valley . The East Revoch Cairn is located on the top of a slight hill at a height of 255 m. There is a report from 1856, in which the extensive destruction of the structure in 1836 is described. At that time, several urns with calcined bone material and some sticks were said to have been found. At that time the complex was still called a tumulus .

Today the East Revoch Cairn is largely destroyed. However, its outlines are still clearly visible in the landscape. Depending on the source, the diameter of the stone mound is between 25 m and 27 m. In the middle there is a smaller cairn with a diameter of 2.5 m of recent date. Several caves have been dug on the site in the past. Cup-and-ring markings can be found on an almost cube-shaped stone with an edge length of around one meter 65 m north of the Cairns . Such stones are common in the Cairns area.
