Echinads (mythology)
Echinades ( Greek Ἐχινάδες Echinades ) is the name of four nymphs in Greek mythology .
According to tradition, the Echinades were daughters of the fortune teller Echinos. In the case of a sacrifice in which they slaughtered ten bulls and offered them to the gods of the field, they are said to have forgotten to invite the river god Acheloos , whereupon he swelled tremendously and washed them into the sea, where they became the island group of the same name in front of the Acheloos estuary .
