Echolalia [ ˌʔɛçolaliː ] (from the Greek. Ἠχώ ( ECHO ) "reverberation" and λαλώ ( Lalo ) "I speak") is

  1. Restricting speech to repeating spoken words in transcortical aphasia .
  2. Repeating sentences and words of interlocutors; occurs among others in Tourette's syndrome , schizophrenia , Alzheimer's disease and autism .

Occasionally, the repetition of spoken phrases in early childhood speech development is referred to as echolalia.
