Edith Fischer (born February 18, 1935 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean classical pianist.

life and work

Edith Fischer was born into a musical family in 1935. She gave her first concert when she was eleven. At the age of thirteen she invited Hermann Scherchen to perform Mozart's Concerto KV453 in G major as a soloist. She studied with Claudio Arrau in New York. She settled in Switzerland and won the Dinu Lipatti Prize in London in 1955 . In 1963 she won the international music competition in Munich.

Their repertoire is very extensive. It includes all Beethoven sonatas and the entire work of Ravel. She was best known for the cyclical performances of all Beethoven sonatas on eight consecutive concert evenings. Fischer also gave numerous chamber music concerts, including those for two pianos together with her husband, the pianist Jorge Pepi-Alos .

Parallel to his concert activity, Fischer passed on her knowledge and the pianistic legacy of her teacher Claudio Arrau in numerous master classes.
