Eguchi Takaya

Eguchi Takaya ( Japanese 江口 隆 哉 , real name: Eguchi Sutematsu ( 江口 捨 松 ); born January 21, 1900 in Noheji , Aomori Prefecture ; † December 25, 1977 , Tokyo Prefecture ) was a Japanese dancer. His younger brother Eguchi Otoya was also a well-known dancer.

Along with dancers such as Takata Masao and Takata Seiko , Baku Ishii and Michio Itō, Eguchi was one of the pioneers of modern dance in Japan. With his wife Miya Misako he studied from 1931 to 1933 with Mary Wigman in Dresden. He organized an association of dancers in Japan and published modern dance magazines. His students included Kanai Fumie , who became his assistant, Masumara Katsuko and Ōno Kazuo .
