The former forest ranger's office is the oldest still existing house in Feudingen . The building is part of the listed ensemble at Im Großen Hof 11–13 .

history

The exact age can no longer be determined from the documents submitted. Information on the development of the community and the ownership structure of the houses and properties can only be derived from the entries in the Salbuch from 1570/80. Writings handed down before 1600 are only sporadically available and do not allow any reliable conclusions to be drawn.

The head forester's office was divided into two parts until 1868, ie there was a living area with stables and the actual head forester's office.

Until 1899 the chief forester's house was used to store hunting gear . This task had to be devoted to the greatest care according to the forest, hunting and fishing regulations.

The house with its stables was used continuously from 1570/80 until the 1990s for agricultural use. In the period from 1584 to 1644 there was also a bar in the building. In the following years from 1644 to 1711 the house and its land were deserted.

On August 15, 1741, a fire disaster occurred in Feudingen. A tornado caused considerable damage in the village. A fire started that spread over the whole village. Only five houses and a barn escaped the disaster, including the old forest ranger's office. Burning down could be prevented by the proximity to the Lahn .

Heinrich Schmidt acquired the property around 1908. He set up a cartwright shop in the chief forester's shop and ran it until the beginning of the Second World War . After his return from captivity, his son Willi (Wähner Willi) continued to run the wheelwright business as a sideline until it was finally closed (1989).

By 1988 the structure was so dilapidated that the building finally collapsed. The extension on the left, which is still standing, is the oldest sub-area of the chief forestry that still exists today.

In 1990 the rebuilding of the barn began. It still serves as a meeting point for the village community once a year for the Christmas market.
