The residential building Ehm-Welk-Straße 37 is a monument in the city of Lübbenau / Spreewald in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in the south of Brandenburg . It is considered to be the oldest preserved building in the city.

Architecture and history

The building is located on the Lübbenau Altmarkt in the immediate vicinity of the Sankt Nikolai Church . It was built towards the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century and is part of a row of houses. The house is covered with a gable roof . The groin-vaulted cellar of the house is even dated between 1620 and 1650, which suggests a previous building at this point. The half-timbered building is dated on its gable with the inscription “Anno 1713”, making it the oldest preserved building in the city of Lübbenau.

Originally the building was used as a customs house. During the 19th century the building was rebuilt and used as a shop from 1911. This is indicated by the inscription “Only my customers are permitted” on the roof. Among other things, it housed a grocery store and a shoe shop. 2011 to a fundamental reorganization of the building in which since the "Timeless" Café is housed.
