Honor Thy Father

Honor Thy Father is a 1971 book by the American journalist and author Gay Talese . The book, which was also published in German under the literally translated title Ehre seine Vater , describes the story of the Mafia family Bonanno , who dominated the New York underworld in the 1960s .

Guy Talese managed to win the trust of Salvatore Bill Bonanno, the son of Joseph Bonanno , and to accompany him for six years. He depicts murder, extortion, drug trafficking and the great New York Mafia war of that time, the origins of which reached back to the time before immigration to Sicily.

Mario Puzo praised the book as "a very unbelievable reporter achievement".

The book was published by Cleveland: World Publishing in 1971 and quickly became a bestseller.
