from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The code of honor for the Austrian press lays down rules for the work of journalists who publish in Austrian print media. Compliance with the rules is monitored by the Austrian Press Council .

Media that undertake to follow the rules of the code of honor indicate this with a logo and the addition of the code of honor of the Austrian press in the imprint .

They were passed in 1971.

The code of ethics regulates behavioral norms for the following topics:

  • Accuracy : The reporting must be truthful and take into account the opinions of all parties involved. Quotations are to be given exactly, incorrect reporting corrected immediately.
  • Distinctness of factual reports, the reproduction of foreign opinion (s) and comments
  • Any influence by outsiders on the content or form of an editorial contribution and the acceptance of benefits by the journalist are not permitted. The financial interests of the journalist or publisher should avoid influencing the reporting.
  • The protection of privacy is to be maintained. Personal defamation, denigration and ridicule should be avoided as well as blanket suspicions and blanket denigrations and discrimination based on racial, religious, national, sexual or other reasons.

The privacy of everyone , especially children and young people, is fundamentally protected.

  • When it comes to material procurement and research, unfair methods such as B. Misleading, exerting pressure, intimidation, brutal exploitation of emotional stressful situations and the use of secret eavesdropping devices are prohibited.
  • Editorial special areas should also refer to the social and political framework conditions beyond the narrow subject area and follow comprehensible criteria.
  • The public interest in publication or non-publication must be weighed up. This is especially true when it comes to solving serious crimes , protecting public safety or health, or preventing the public from being misled.
  • The Senates also derive from the provisions of the Code of Ethics that editorial content and advertising must be separated from one another.
