Daniel "Dan" Harry Graham (born March 31, 1942 in Urbana , Illinois ) is a New York based American sculptor , concept and video artist .

Life

Graham studied philosophy at Columbia University in New York. In 1969 he taught for one year at the University of California at San Diego and the following year until 1971 at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax .

Dan Graham is one of the most influential conceptual artists for the younger generation of artists, who with his work questioned the autonomy of artistic work and reflected the role of popular culture. In 2010, Graham was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
