Federal Song Festival 1858

The 8th Federal Singers' Festival took place on July 17th to 19th, 1858 in Zurich . Thus, Zurich was the first city to hold the song festival for the second time after several other cities (Aarau, Chur, Glarus, Burgdorf, Biel, Lenzburg and Solothurn) had rejected it. A total of 3450 singers took part in 111 clubs; in addition there were 500 participants in guest clubs from Germany, Austria and France. The festival was organized by the two Zurich male choirs Harmonie and Stadtsängerverein.

Zurich government councilor Jakob Dubs acted as the festival president . The president of the jury was the composer Wilhelm Baumgartner , the festival director of the overall performance was the director of Harmonie Ignaz Heim .
