Invitation race

Only those who have been invited by the organizer can take part in an invitation race.

If the starting places are limited in normal races, the regular participants in the associated championship are preferred or starting places are decided in the order in which the entries are received. However, some organizers can afford to act as they see fit and only invite some of the eligible participants.

A well-known example from motorsport is the Le Mans 24-hour race .
