Modeling light

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Modeling (also Model light or pilot light ) refers to a device mainly at studio flash units , which makes it possible to assess the effect of the flash illumination in front of a photographic recording.

The modeling light is often a halogen lamp with an output between 50 watts and 250 watts, which is arranged in the flash head together with the actual flash tubes. Some modern flash units are able to control the flash tube at a much reduced power at a relatively high frequency, so that constant lighting results and a separate modeling light is superfluous.
