Eion in Thrace
Eion in Thrace (after Thucydides : Ἠιὼν ἡ ἐπὶ Θρᾴκης = Eion, the (polis) in Thrace , the inhabitants: Ἠϊονίτης , plural Ἠϊονίται = the Eionites) was a colony of the ancient Greek city of Mende . The exact location of the city is unknown. But it was very likely in Chalkidiki .
It was born in the summer of 425 BC. Conquered by Simonides , a general of the Athenians , through betrayal. The Chalkidians and Bottiaians recaptured the city from the Athenians shortly afterwards. The Athenians suffered great losses here.
