In the Encarnación railway accident on September 19, 1907 near Encarnación de Díaz , Mexico , a freight train and an express train collided head-on. At least 63 people died.

the accident

A freight train should wait for the train crossing with an oncoming express train on a siding. However, he did not stop on the siding, but drove back into the main track at the other end. The express train approaching him from a gradient at considerable speed hit the freight train head-on.

consequences

At least 63 people died and 43 others were injured. The staff of the freight locomotive managed to get to safety in time and fled. The engine driver , a US citizen , was as it attempted to cross the border into the United States arrested .
