In the Iturbe railway accident on September 9, 1945, the international train from La Paz , Bolivia , to Argentina derailed near Iturbe , Jujuy Province , in the Quebrada de Humahuaca gorge . 40 people died.

The train was delayed . The engine driver tried to make up for the lost time. He took the tight curves in the area of the Quebrada de Humahuaca gorge too quickly and the train derailed at about 60 km / h. The scene of the accident was at an altitude of around 3,600 meters.
