In the Iturbe railway accident on September 9, 1945, the international train from La Paz , Bolivia , to Argentina derailed near Iturbe , Jujuy Province , in the Quebrada de Humahuaca gorge . 40 people died.

The train was delayed . The engine driver tried to make up for the lost time. He took the tight curves in the area of ​​the Quebrada de Humahuaca gorge too quickly and the train derailed at about 60 km / h. The scene of the accident was at an altitude of around 3,600 meters.
