The Canton railway accident occurred on January 3, 1938 during the Second Sino-Japanese War near Canton (today: Guangzhou ): A Japanese bombing attack damaged a tunnel on the railway line from Canton to Wuchuan . A train coming from Canton drove into a pile of rubble that had been created in the tunnel and derailed . 42 people died.
