Eisenerzer Höhe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eisenerzer Höhe is 1549  m above sea level. A. high mountain crossing in Styria , which connects the Hinterwildalpen with iron ore .

The Eisenerzer Höhe is not developed and can only be overcome on foot. Although the old mule track has been proven to date from the Middle Ages, it is still often referred to as the Roman route . The most interesting section is the path carved into a steep rock face at Wagnerloch, where cart ruts are visible. These were hammered into the rock so that carts run like they are on rails and cannot stray from the rocky path. These ruts, which also occur on Roman roads, probably led to the name Römerweg. Charcoal after iron ore and salt and food to Wildalpen were transported over the Eisenerzer Höhe. Today the Eisenerzer Höhe is mainly visited for tourists.
