Interstadial
Interstadials are short-term (relative) warm periods between stadials (ice advances) within a glacial (cold period with strong glaciation).
The stadiums and interstadials of the last glacial ( Würm or Weichsel glacial ) can best be reconstructed , since their geological traces are better preserved than the previous glaciations. Within the Würm / Weichsel glacial complex, numerous stadials and interstadials are distinguished.
For example, Older Dryas (Stadial), Allerød-Interstadial and Younger Dryas (Stadial) follow one another . After this last stage of the Würm / Weichsel glacial complex, the interglacial of the Holocene , in which we live today, begins .
