El-Tuweina

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ruins of el-Tuweina are located near the central Wadi Abu Dom, a good 4 km southeast of the Bir Merwa well in Sudan . These are the remains of three buildings, which presumably comprise an (elite) residential complex and associated storage. The ensemble probably dates to the late Meroite era and resembles the buildings of the post-Meroite rulers ' seat of el-Hobagi .

The ruin was discovered in 2012 during an expedition by the University of Münster and architecturally documented in 2013. The ruins were systematically excavated from 2017 to 2019.
