El Moudjahid

El Moudjahid ( Arabic المجاهد, DMG al-muǧāhid  'the fighter') is a national Algerian daily newspaper that appears in French .

It was founded as an underground newspaper for the FLN during the Algerian War of Independence . The first edition appeared in Morocco on July 1, 1956, and the newspaper has been published in Algiers since Algeria became independent in 1962 . Until the 1980s, El Moudjahid served as the central organ of the ruling party FLN, which directed the fortunes of Algeria as a unified party for a good three decades. El Moudjahid was the official mouthpiece of the government and is still one of the most important daily newspapers in Algeria.
