El Nuevo Siglo ( German  The New Century ) is a conservative Colombian daily that first appeared on February 1, 1936 in Bogotá . The permanently independent style of its associated internet presence today provides its readers with news, analyzes, interviews and reports in real time. It is a political opinion paper and is known to have taken a critical stance on the previous government of President Álvaro Uribe Vélez .

history

The newspaper was originally founded in 1925 under the name El Siglo by former Colombian presidents Laureano Gómez Castro and José de la Vega, but his staunch opposition to the military rule of General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla resulted in the EL Nuevo Siglo government in the year Prevented from appearing in 1953. Only at the end of the dictatorship, in 1957, could the paper be brought out again.

Since 1990 the paper has undergone drastic changes in its presentation and from then on appeared in tabloid format .
