Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Electronic Travel Authorization ( eTA ) is an electronic procedure for visa-free entry to Canada that has existed since August 2015 , which will completely replace the previous procedure from March 15, 2016. The application is currently only possible online (as of February 28, 2020) in English and French. There is a fee of 7 CAD when applying for the eTA . Approval / rejection to start the trip is usually given immediately after the application has been sent. The actual entry will be decided on site.

An eTA is valid for five years as long as the passport whose details were entered in the eTA application form does not expire earlier. During the period of validity of five years, you can travel to Canada several times with an eTA. However, each stay may last a maximum of six months.

The corresponding procedure for the USA is called Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). The corresponding procedure for Australia is called the Electronic Travel Authority .
