Electronic Travel Authority

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Electronic Travel Authority ( ETA ) is an electronic visa for tourists and business people to enter Australia . The ETA visa is divided into the ETA procedure and the eVisitor procedure.

This means that paper documents are no longer necessary and the visa is electronically saved directly by the immigration authorities after the application has been successfully completed and is already available upon entry.

background

A visa can only be applied for if the traveler has a valid passport from one of the following countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, USA, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Andorra, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Vatican City.

A distinction must be made between the ETA and the eVisitor. The eVisitor is a sub-category of the ETA and applies to 36 European countries. The normal ETA applies to all other countries on the above list. The exact division between ETA and eVisitor is as follows:

The application for an electronic visa can be made via the Internet, via a responsible consulate or directly through an authorized travel agency when booking the flight . There are also various agencies where the visa can be applied for online for a fee . The advantage of such a service is the higher approval rate of the application, since the data is checked in advance and errors can be corrected in good time. In contrast to the American procedure, the application on the Australian website is only possible in English.

There is a $ 20 fee to apply for the ETA, but the eVisitor is free.

The corresponding procedure for the USA is called Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
