Jason Matthew Thirsk was born on December 25, 1967 in Hermosa Beach, where he also spent much of his life. As a boy he met punk bands like Black Flag through older friends . When he heard this music, he wanted to play such music too. Only a few months later he founded his first band with three friends, they called themselves "Juvenile Delinquents". Later he went to the "Band Syndicate", later to the band "PMA", which only played cover songs.

Pennywise

Thirsk preferred to play his own music, so in 1988 he founded “ Pennywise ” with Fletcher Dragge, Jim Lindberg and Byron McMackin , who are still among the most successful punk bands in the world.

Jason Thirsk's goal was always to make music with positive lyrics, which he tried in the lyrics he wrote for the band.

The gun collector Thirsk died on July 29, 1996 of a gunshot wound. The police assumed suicide as Thirsk was considered depressed.

The spokeswoman for Epitaph Records , with whom Pennywise is under contract, said Thirsk was drunk and cleaned his gun when a shot accidentally went off. In fact, he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of death.
