Element management system

An Element Management System (EMS) is a centralized network management software and is used for remote configuration, analysis and system monitoring. In addition to other protocols such as CMIP (Common Management Information Protocol) or CMAP (Connection Management Access Protocol), an EMS mostly uses the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). SNMP is based on the manager-agent principle and is used to transmit control and monitoring data between the network elements. The manager therefore has the option of managing all agents (network elements).

As the network size is growing steadily, it is a challenge to keep the network functional and to react immediately to possible network disturbances. This is especially true when several switches are used in the various subnets.

To simplify network management, an EMS provides a centralized remote management platform that allows administrators to easily manage and monitor every element on the network from a single computer. This enables efficient network management and takes the burden off the administrator.
