action

The book is about a class from a Berlin elementary school in Wilmersdorf who is fighting hard for the city's soccer school championship. The main character is the team captain Heini Kamke . In addition to the athletic spirit and community spirit of the boys, the book also touches on social issues such as the unemployment of fathers. The novel is set in the 1930s and contains autobiographical information about Sammy Drechsel, whose real name was Karl-Heinz Kamke . The title of the book comes from the " Victoria statue " (the predecessor of today's soccer championship trophy, awarded from 1903 to 1944), on the base of which the saying "You have to be eleven friends if you want to win" was engraved.
