1986 Elite Race

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1986 the elite race was held for the 40th time on the Gelsenkirchen Trabrennbahn (today GelsenTrabPark ). The start of the world's best trotting horse , Ourasi , made headlines and attracted a large number of visitors.

prehistory

Although the endowment had been reduced from DM 200,000 to DM 150,000 in 1983, the best horse in the world at the time was able to compete in Gelsenkirchen. The elite race was to be Ourasi's first start abroad. In January Ourasi won the Prix d'Amérique at the Hippodrome de Vincennes and has been unbeaten in the eight races he has contested since the beginning of the year. Since the race distance in the elite race had been shortened from 2,500 meters to 2,011 meters (international 1¼ miles) for the first time this year, it was discussed in advance whether a new world record might even be possible. This was set up on August 4th 1985 by Minou du Donjon in the hand of Olle Goop (driver) in Solvalla / Sweden over the race distance of 2,140 meters. The current world record was now at a kilometer time of 1: 13.5 (1 min. 13.5 seconds). The biggest competitors of the star guest from France were Utah Bulwark for the winning goal of 56:10 (today 5.6 for € 1) and the American- bred Super Play for the winning goal of 92:10.

Race course

The 40th Elite Race started on Sunday July 13th at 4:25 pm. Utah Bulwark made a mistake behind the starting car (galloped) and fell back a few lengths. First Igor took the lead, followed by Ourasi and Heide Lore . In the first arc, Jean-René-Gourgeon, ourasi's driver , took the favorite back a little and let Igor and Heide Lore do the quick lead work. At the entrance to the grandstand straight, the two leading horses had placed three to four lengths between themselves and their pursuers. In a brisk drive (1st split time 1: 13.5) Igor came up the grandstand straight, on the outside a little behind Heide Lore , in whose fairway (also 2nd lane) Ourasi ran. On the inside edge was Megabucks in front of Hallon Brunn . Unchanged, the field passed through the Heßler-Bogen (named after the district located there). The two competitors Super Play and Utah Bulwak were still trotting at the bottom of the field. Towards the end of the opposite side, Jean-René Gourgeon Ourasi moved into third lane and started the attack on the leading horses. The initially brisk journey had slowed down a bit. At the beginning of the final arc , Heide Lore was quickly beaten, shortly after reaching the apex Ourasi (running outside) took the lead. In fourth lane, Super Play had fought their way up, followed by Utah Bulwark . Ourasi was a sure winner on the home stretch . There was a duel between Utah Bulwark and Super Play , with Hallon Brunn as fourth horse . The fifth prize money went to Noble Moon . Ourasi trotted a new best time in the elite race, although it was now measured over a distance of almost 400 meters. With 1: 14.2 it was six tenths less than Lurabo's time in 1984. Ourasi won easily with 2½ lengths - head and 1½ lengths. 10 horses were running.

The race prizes (value) were divided into 70,000 - 35,000 - 20,000 - 15,000 and 10,000 DM among the first five places.

Follow-up

The victory Toto paid for Ourasi 12:10 (now 1.2 for 1 €), in the place bet 11:10. The quota for Utah Bulwark was 15:10, for Super Play 18:10. In the two- way bet Ourasi - Utah Bullwark the odds of 32:10 were paid out. In the three- way bet Ourasi - Utah Bulwark - Super Play there was 60.- Marks for 10.- Mark stakes.

In the supporting program, Diamond Way (winner of the German Trotting Derby) won the A + M Cup to the winning goal of 14:10 (today 1.4 for € 1). With a turnover of 1,428,287.50 DM Gelsentrab achieved the season record, but could not come close to the result of 1980 despite the star cast.

Trivia

Ourasi continued his winning streak after the elite race and remained undefeated throughout the racing year. This series did not end until June 18, 1987, when he finished second in the Prix René Balliére. He had won 22 races in a row. Due to the continued success, the guaranteed rate of 10½ for 10 was paid to Ourasi in other races in France. Ourasi started four more times in the Prix d'Amérique, where he won three times and finished third once. Ourasi is still the only horse that has won the Prix d'Amérique four times. A French trade journal later voted Ourasi trotter of the century.
