Prix d'Amérique
The Prix d'Amérique is one of the most famous trotting races in the world. It has been held in the Hippodrome de Vincennes on the last Sunday in January since 1920 . It is considered the world championship of trotting.
The race belongs to the international group I of races for horses from four to ten years of age, which must have won at least 160,000 euros in prize money, of which 31,000 euros in the previous year (conditions 2009). Horses that have occupied one of the first four places in the four preparatory races (the Prix de Bretagne , the Prix du Bourbonnais , the Prix de Bourgogne and the Prix de Belgique ) enjoy priority - depending on the individual number of points. The 2009 race was endowed with one million euros, half of which, increased by 50 percent of the income, goes to the winner.
The Prix d'Amérique is held on a 2,700 meter long course, which corresponds to a full lap and a further 725 meters on the Vincennes Grand Circuit.
