Harness racers

Walter Heitmann was born in Hamburg in 1904 as the son of the harness racing driver Hinrich Heitmann. He won his first race in 1923 on the trotting track in Bahrenfeld . 1952 won Heitmann with the drawn his own stallion Permit in Elitloppet . A year later, in 1953, Walter Heitmann won the Prix ​​d'Amérique with a permit . The stallion was the first German horse to win this trotting race. Five times - in 1954, 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1967 - Heitmann won the German Trotting Derby as a driver with the horses Vielliebchen, Errol, Gutenberg, Hadu and Lord Pit. Walter Heitmann's son was also one of the derby winners. Peter Heitmann won the trotting derby in 1978 and 1989 with Ada and Grimaldi, respectively.

Horse breeder

In 1949 Walter Heitmann acquired the Buchenhof stud in Delingsdorf. Heitmann was just as successful as a breeder of trotting horses and as a driver. Nine Derby winners were bred by the Heitmann family. Among them is the winner of 1923, the mare Mary H. Other derby winners drawn by Heitmanns have been Riedel, Vielliebchen, Errol, Gutenberg, Hadu, Lord Pit, Manzanares and Ada. Walter Heitmann also bred gallops . The stallion Cagliostro comes from his breeding. In 1976 he was the most successful two-year-old horse racing horse in Germany.
