Equestrian sports in Hamburg
Equestrian sports in Hamburg , which is equestrian , the latitude and athletes exercise. In the Hanseatic city, riders and horses have access to equestrian facilities and clubs as well as bridle paths in nature.

Horse racing
In 1869 the (North) German Gallop Derby was held for the first time in the Hanseatic city and has been known as the German Derby since 1889 . The horse race is run on the horse racing track in Hamburg-Horn .
Harness racing
The first trotting races were organized by the Hamburg-Altona Racing and Trotting Club, founded in 1874, in Groß-Jüthorn near Wandsbek , later in Tonndorf and until 1901 in Winterhude . The North German Racing and Trotting Club , which has existed since 1880, gave decisive impetus to the North German trotting sport, which ran races in Bahrenfeld . In 1911, a trotting track was opened in Farmsen . This existed until 1976. Races are also started on the trotting track in Bahrenfeld in the 21st century.
In 2023, a double race track for gallop and trotting is to be opened in Hamburg-Horn. It is planned to use the area of the trotting track for the development of the Science City Bahrenfeld .
polo
Polo has been played in Klein Flottbek since 1898 . In 1906 an international polo tournament was held for the first time . Even in the 21st century tournaments are held in Klein Flottbek.
Show jumping, dressage, driving
In 1920 the first German jumping derby was held in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek. The German Driving Derby was added in 1950 and the German Dressage Derby in 1955 . The driving derby changed location at the end of the 20th century. In addition to the international show jumping and dressage derby, riding and driving clubs in the city organize tournaments with tests up to advanced levels.
Eventing riding
At the beginning of the 21st century, the derby in eventing equestrian sport was held several times on the racecourse in Hamburg .

Student riding
There are student riding groups at several German university locations. There is also a riding group in Hamburg whose members are students. The umbrella organization of these groups is the German Academic Equestrian Association . University comparison competitions are held regularly. The German University Championship takes place every December . The University of Hamburg's student riding group also takes part in the university comparison competitions.
