Popular sports tournament (horse riding)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mass sport tournaments or mass sport competitions in riding or driving with horses are a form of competition for recreational riders . They have developed in different ways since the advent of recreational riding in Central Europe, especially in Germany since the late 1950s. In contrast to top-class sports tournaments, the focus of mass sports tournaments is not on performance, but on diversity. The main aspect of the popular sporting competition is the fun with the horse and the partnership and the horse needs adapted handling in the sense of horsemanship . Popular sports competitions do not have to be linked to classic tournament sports. They are an opportunity for the rider to test himself and his horse and to playfully compare himself to his fellow competitors. Popular sports competitions can be held publicly and as a large festival or on a smaller scale in a club or in the riding school. A typical form of competition for a mass sports tournament is the Hestadagar of the Icelandic horse rider .

A successful large mass sports tournament is the state broad-based sports tournament of the Schleswig-Holstein Equestrian Sports Association , which has been held annually in Bad Segeberg since 1996 in August (2007 also as a national broad-based sports tournament).

Typical competitions at mass sports tournaments are e.g. B. rideability tests, trail course, dexterity course, caprilli tests, serenity tests, tölt skills, driving on the ground, flag races, ribbon races and much more.

Serenity test

The serenity tests (GHP) do not ask about the performance of horses, but about their character, their trust in people and their upbringing. Special obstacles to serenity are used to check how easily a horse can be thrown off balance.

With some serenity obstacles, situations that can arise during a ride are re-enacted: a wheelbarrow with a clattering content, a ball that suddenly rolls out from behind a hedge, rustling tape tapes , the playing of a special sound CD, an unexpectedly opening umbrella or the garbage passage (Sacks, garbage cans, various types of rubbish lying on the floor), as well as planks and tarpaulins that the horse should bravely cross. Also, whip cracking , or touching the horse in all parts of the body except the head, can be used to serenity training.

For some obstacles, the daily handling of the horse is asked: for example, the horse should be sprayed with a spray bottle ( fly spray in summer), it should put its hooves in a bucket of water ( hoof care ), a tarpaulin that is placed on its back , tolerate ( horse blanket in winter) and patiently wait next to a climbing aid for the rider to mount.

There are also various bar of dexterity made from bars. For example, it should be able to be guided backwards through an L-shaped pole alley and carefully and carefully step across various poles. The bar U is a test of trust and obedience, in which the horse is placed and must stop on a sign when the companion steps out of the U.

It is important that the horse is attentive and perceives the obstacles and does not simply trot disinterested through the course .

There are two different guided serenity tests and a ridden serenity test, in which a couple can only take part after they have successfully completed a guided GHP.

Even police horses are subjected to a detailed serenity training. The horses learn, among other things, to walk through fireworks , to tolerate shots , screams , noise and crowds in loud crowds, for example after a football game .
