The Galopprennbahn Hamburg-Horn , also known as Horner Rennbahn , is a racing facility for horse racing in the Hamburg district of Horn , which was elevated to a suburb of Hamburg in 1874 and incorporated as an independent district in 1894 . The nearby underground station "Horner Rennbahn" is named after her.

In 1855 the construction of the racecourse began in the village of Horn, east of Hamburg. The gallop derby (first the North German Derby , then the German Gallop Derby and now the German Derby ) has been held there since 1869 . Germany's first totalizator was built in a wooden shack in 1870 . There is space for 50,000 visitors in the stands and standing room. A tunnel built in 1912, which vehicles can also pass, connects the grandstand side with the inner area of the Horner racecourse, which is open to the public as an amusement park .

The entire property is owned by the city and is managed by the Hamburg-Mitte district office. The turf , the Tribune building and the need for the horse racing surfaces are at the " Hamburger Racing Club 1852 e. V. “leased. The inner area is called the "Horner Rennbahn Leisure Park" and is a public green area that is also managed by the Hamburg-Mitte district office. It is freely accessible outside of the derby week.

The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is considering merging the city's two horse racing tracks ( Traber in Bahrenfeld and Galopper in Horn) on the Horner Rennbahn. The preliminary master plan from 2010 provides for a complete redesign of the property during the merger.
