The Neue Bult is a horse racing track opened in 1973 in the urban area of Langenhagen . The residential area south of the An der neue Bult street, which was built in the 1970s and 1980s, is also named after the Neue Bult racecourse . The residential area is limited to the west by Theodor-Heuss-Straße and to the east by Kolberger Straße.

The racetrack is operated by the Hannoversche Rennverein, founded in 1867, the oldest sports club in Hanover. The club is based at its horse racing track in Langenhagen.

history

Establishment of the Hanoverian racing club in 1867 and its racetracks until 1970

After the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia , the Prussian Military Riding School was relocated to Hanover in October 1866 . In the following year the "Association for the Promotion of Hanoverian State Horse Breeding " was founded. The association initially organized hunting and obstacle races on the Vahrenwalder Heide , but initially only for riders of the military . From 1868 an area with a grandstand was available for public horse races on the Kleine Bult , the area between the town hall (built later) and the railway line to Braunschweig .

From 1881 to 1909, the association organized the German St. Leger , which, after the last use of the riding area on the Kleine Bult in 1905, took place on the new racecourse on the Große Bult (today: Alte Bult ) in Bischofshol from the following year 1906 . The new racetrack was specially designed for flat and obstacle races, planned by the city building authority and financed almost 100 percent by the city of Hanover. A small portion was raised by the racing club, which at the time specialized in half-blood races, as the tenant of the site.

During the Second World War , the racing area on the Große Bult was destroyed by aerial bombs in the air raids on Hanover in 1943 .

With the approval of the British military authorities , the club was able to resume racing in October 1946.

In 1969 the city of Hanover terminated the lease contract for the site on the Große Bult because the computer company IBM wanted to settle there; a corresponding new building on site was never realized. The last race on the Große Bult was held on August 15, 1970, after which the structures there were demolished.

The city of Hanover now made the grounds on the Neue Bult in Langenhagen available to the racing club , where - after the completion of the structural systems - the jockeys competed for the first time in May 1973. The Neue Bult is the last horse racing track built in Germany so far.

In 1978 the Hannoversche Rennverein organized a total of 16 racing days and made a betting turnover of almost 6 million DM , making it  the most successful season to date .

Facilities and operations

The 1,800-meter-long flat runway is lined with a grandstand with around 2,000 seats. There is also a training facility with a riding hall , 200 horse stalls and a sand track. There is a large car park west of the racetrack.

The Neue Bult is firmly anchored in sports life in the Hanover region and beyond. It is one of the most popular racetracks in Germany. Race days with 20,000 visitors are not uncommon. In 2014, the Hannoversche Rennverein counted around 78,600 visitors on seven racing days with a betting turnover of 1.5 million euros, a little less than in 2013.

Themed race days

The Hannoversche Rennverein has been trying for a number of years with some success to win over an audience away from gallop sports. With low admission prices - children up to the age of 14 have free admission -, bouncy castles , pony rides, etc., you position yourself as a child-friendly family race track, while the sponsors in the Garden Lounge are given the opportunity to receive their guests in an exclusive atmosphere. In addition, on most race days there is an extensive supporting program dedicated to a specific topic. So on Ascot race day, following the English model, the focus is on women's fashion with unusual hat creations. On Hannover 96 Racing Day , coaches and some players will be available to the audience for autographs and interviews. On the other hand, the Bavarian costume dominates the race track on Oktoberfest race day . On race day agriculture , the agriculture related jobs present. The VGH -Renntag is dedicated to the most loyal sponsor of the racetrack, who also provides a free, printed racing program on all racing days, and on the final racing day of the studs the entire German thoroughbred breed celebrates itself.
