The Horner Rennbahn underground station is a tunnel stop on the Hamburg underground lines U2 and U4 . It is located in the Horn district in the Hamburg-Mitte district . The operating abbreviation of the operator Hamburger Hochbahn for the station is HN. The name of the station refers to the Hamburg-Horn racecourse to the north, also known as the Horner Rennbahn.

history

Construction of the stop began in 1963 until it opened four years later on January 2, 1967 as the temporary terminus of the U3 line. From that day on, you could drive from the Horner Rennbahn station via Berliner Tor , Landungsbrücken , Schlump and Kellinghusenstraße to Barmbek . The expansion to the next stop, Legienstrasse, was approved as early as September 24, 1967, and was continued in stages to the current terminus at Mümmelmannsberg .

After the line swap of the eastern branches, the U2 line has been running through the station since June 29, 2009 , and now runs from Niendorf Nord to Mümmelmannsberg, and since November 29, 2012, the U4 line from Hafencity to Billstedt.

Expansion and location

Bus stop at the Horner Rennbahn underground station

The station has a central platform that widens towards the east end. The east entrance was kept more generous overall, since one could change to different bus lines and until 1976 to a tram ; in addition, small shops were built around the entrance. At the western end of the platform there is an entrance that leads to an entrance hall in a green area around the Bauerberg and the Gojenboom.

The walls are tiled in white and have an upward sloping pattern of turquoise and dark blue. The floor was paved in gray, the ceiling is clad in black over the tracks and gray over the platform, the central supports are also tiled in white and have a vertical dark blue stripe in the middle of each side.

To the east of the platform is a double-track sweeping system, which is mainly used by the U4 trains. In addition, underground vehicles that are no longer required are parked there, but they are not yet to be scrapped, for example two cars of the DT1 train type built in 1958 and an elevated railway car from 1912.

extension

Planned location of the extension and the new platform to be built

In connection with the extension of the U4 in the direction of Horner Geest , the construction of another platform is planned. According to the current plans, today's central platform will be converted into a directional platform in the direction of the city center, on which the U4 trains will run on track 2 (northern track) and the U2 trains on track 1 (southern track). The U2 and U4 trains are to run on the same track at the side platform to be built south of the current station. To the east of the station, the U4 should unwind in a northeast direction.
