The Niendorf Nord station is the western terminus of the line U2 of the Hamburg subway . There is a small bus station in front of the train station , which is served by several bus lines . The U2 runs from here in the direction of Mümmelmannsberg. The stop has around 8,600 people entering and leaving the station every day (Mon-Fri, 2017).

investment

The platform is one level below the surface and can be reached from the south as well as from the north. The station is handicapped accessible, it has fixed stairs, an additional escalator (up) at the southern end of the platform and a separate elevator a little further north. Tickets are sold from machines . The trains can enter via a double track change in front of the station on both sides of the central platform and thus "short sweeps". To the north of the platform there is a four-track storage facility that offers space for 16 DT4 units. In the middle area, the platform is raised for wheelchair users and prams. On the pillars for the ceiling there are white tubes that are supposed to represent birch trees. In the southern entrance building there is a sales room for newspapers and travel supplies as well as toilets for the bus drivers . There is also a taxi post and the bus station here. In front of the northern exit there is a small park in which there is the memorial “ Table with 12 chairs ”.

In order to impair the residents as little as possible, points with movable frogs have been used, which are normally only used on high-speed lines on long-distance trains.

The station itself can also be used as a civil defense area in an emergency . For this purpose, all entrances (including the elevator shaft) can be blocked off with locking gates. This ability makes the station one of several so-called multi - purpose facilities in the Hamburg city area.

history

In 1987 the construction of the extension line from Niendorf Markt to Niendorf Nord began with the three stops Joachim-Mähl-Straße , Schippelsweg and Niendorf Nord . The construction of the station went under the name "Nordalbingerweg", for better orientation of the underground passengers the new terminus of the U2 got the better assignable name Niendorf Nord. The opening was on March 9, 1991.
