The Metro Station Hagendeel is a stop of the Hamburg subway - U2 in the district Lokstedt . The station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "HL". In 2017, an average of 2,800 boarding and disembarking passengers were at the bus stop every day (Mon-Fri).

history

Hamburg's tram network has been dismantled since 1955 , until the last route with line 2 to Niendorf was shut down on October 1, 1978. As a replacement for the tram, Niendorf demanded the construction of an underground line. Since no financial means were available for a route from Stephansplatz via the Grindelviertel , following the course of the tram on the Hoheluftchaussee to Lokstedt , only an extension of the route from Eimsbüttel was possible.

The Hagendeel underground station was not included in the original plans because the route between the previous terminus at Hagenbecks Tierpark and Niendorf crosses a sparsely populated area. At the instigation of the Eimsbüttel district assembly, however, the Hagendeel stop, still under the working title “Hinter der Lieth”, was added as an additional stop.

Almost a year after the tram was shut down, construction of the subway began on July 7, 1979. In order to save costs, the work should actually be carried out using the cut-and-cover method, but for environmental reasons the route was built underground. The question of costs also had an impact on the design of the Hagendeel underground station. Its side platforms are narrower than usual.

The opening took place on June 1, 1985.

investment

The access building of the underground station is at the intersection of the streets "Hinter der Lieth" and "Liethwisch" and thus at the southern end of the station. The Hagendeel street, which gives it its name, is about 200 meters to the east. The building is a steel and glass construction that is kept in red. Ticket machines and passenger information are on the street level, with stairs on the sides leading to the side platforms. There is no second exit.

The barrier-free expansion began in December 2015 and was completed on December 17, 2018. For this purpose, two elevator shafts were built directly behind the access building, which end directly next to the stairs on the platforms. In addition, the platform was raised to enable level entry and exit, and a tactile guidance system for the visually impaired was set up. The construction time took a year longer than planned because a high water table had caused problems. In addition to the barrier-free expansion, a bike + ride facility was built next to the entrance building.

The walls of the platforms are covered with red and green tiles, which are set off with white tiles. The rust-brown tone of the ceiling lights can also be found on the supporting pillars between the tracks. The floor is tiled in light green.

The distance to the Hagenbecks Tierpark stop is 1,310 meters, to Niendorf Markt 1905 meters.

Connection

Hagendeel underground station is served every 5 minutes during the day, during the other times the station is served every ten minutes. There is no transition to other public transport.
