The Hammer Kirche underground station is a stop on the Hamburg underground lines U2 and U4 in the Hamm district . The station has around 12,500 people entering and leaving the station daily (Mon-Fri, 2017).

history

Hammer Kirche underground station was built as part of the construction of the underground line to Billstedt . For the construction of the new station, the street that originally ran down the Geest slope to Hammer Landstrasse was shortened from Bei der Hammer Kirche to Horner Weg. In return, the Hammer Steindamm , which until then ended above the Geest slope, was extended in a wide arc around the new station to Hammer Landstrasse.

In January 1967 operations could begin. Around 1970, after the tram that originally stopped there had been replaced by buses, the access structure was expanded: the pedestrian tunnel now crossed under Hammer Landstrasse. The portal previously located there was completely removed. The new tunnel section can still be recognized today by the lack of tiling.

In the area of the bus stop itself, the previously existing ceiling panels over the tracks have now been removed, making the irregular approach of the tiles visible.

Expansion and location

The stop takes its name from the nearby church . The central platform has only one entrance at the western end, but the access structure leads to three exits (Horner Weg, Hammer Steindamm, Hammer Landstrasse). A special feature is the tapering, conical shape of the platform, which is extremely wide near the exit, but becomes very narrow at the eastern end. The stop is about at the level of Hammer Landstrasse. It was built underground in a ridge .

The burgstraße is 955 meters away. The 655-meter-long route to the Rauhes Haus underground station was built on a trial basis from prefabricated segments. It was the second attempt of this kind after the route of the U1 line on Lübeckertordamm. The construction method, however, could not prevail.

Since October 2014 the station has been made barrier-free. The elevator was inaugurated in August 2014, but the platforms were not yet elevated. The Hammer Landstrasse access is not barrier-free.

The Hammer Kirche underground station also offers transition options to the city bus and night bus. The in-house abbreviation of the elevated railway for the stop is "HK".
