history

Access building in the middle of the bus system

Already in the 1960s there were plans for an underground station at this point in order to develop the area around Rantumer Weg. With the abandonment of the planning of the subway in the direction of Glinde in 1974, this was initially not pursued. As part of the extension of the U3 line to Mümmelmannsberg , construction of the station began in 1987. The Steinfurther Allee underground station was opened with this extension on September 29, 1990. The U2 line has been running on this branch since the line swap in 2009.

The underground station is barrier-free.

construction

Barrier-free access

The tunnel stop has side platforms that have been arranged a little offset. The entrances are offset from the railway line at an angle, which is also reflected in the design of the tiles, which are based on the location of the entrances and the above-ground access building. The building also serves as a bus station connecting the eastern suburbs of Hamburg.

In addition, the structure is designed as a multi-purpose building for civil defense . In the event of a crisis, 1200 people find protection here, the route tunnels and all entrances can be closed by locking gates. The internal station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "SF".
