The Rauhes Haus underground station is a stop on the Hamburg underground lines U2 and U4 in the Hamm district .
history
The “Rauhes Haus” underground station was built as part of the expansion of the underground line to Billstedt . Operations started in January 1967.
In 2015, the station will be made barrier-free by creating an external, direct access to the track to the east from the street side, which no other subway station on the Hamburg route network has. This innovation is complemented by an outside elevator next to it, which makes it possible to reach the opposite track in the direction of the city center via a second elevator without barriers. For both renovation measures in the outer area of the stop, the previous pedestrian ramp was removed from the eastern side of the station, which was previously the only access.
Expansion and location
The underground station is located directly on the Geesthang and was originally completely enclosed. While the north side is set into the ground, the south side was designed to be translucent with a window front made of Plexiglas. This hitherto unique construction was partially opened for a likewise unique direct external access to the track as part of the barrier-free expansion in 2015.
The trains stop at two side platforms, each over 120 meters long . At both ends there are stairs that lead into smaller above-ground vestibules. At the east end of the platforms there is a pulpit above the tracks for the train dispatchers used earlier; Today it serves as a storage and utility room and is no longer actively used for the operational process.
The abbreviation of the station at the Hamburger Hochbahn is "RH". The neighboring Hammer Kirche station is around 650 meters away, while the Horner Rennbahn stop is around 1.2 kilometers away.
The area of the eponymous foundation " Rauhes Haus " is located about 200 meters east of the underground station in the neighboring district of Horn .
